Dear Mrs Seymour,
i am a member in the "Anglerboard" the biggest internet fishing forum in
the german speaking area. For years we have discussed the significance
of fishing lines as most important connection to the fish. One of of the
major points has ever been that mostly the informations given by the
producers about their lines were incorrect. For many of us the EFTTA`s
test results have been a trusted, independent source. Since these
results aren`t avaiable anymore and you are planning to introduce a
"Line Charter", there have been brought up some questions. We would
appreciate if you could answer some of the following and will allow us
to publish your answers in the board.
1.) Why did you take the step up from testing lines to a whole charter?
In the former program, it was only concerning Lines taken from the catalogue but not all ... and not whole companies.
Companies refused to invest for individual testing and approvals by EFTTA which is rather expensive, we haven’t at that time communicated enough on that program, then we have decided to change it in Company Commitments by signing the Charter.
2.) Will charter members be watched and controlled in the future by the
EFTTA?
Yes on a random Base , and if we see big differences we will first of all warn the company ( can be non voluntary mistake) and ask them to correct; It they continues and if its evidences that it is voluntary, They will be expelled from the Charter and possibly from EFTTA.
EFTTAWILL NOT RUN COURT CASES AGAINST ITS MEMBERS AS ITS NOT THE ROLE OF A TRADE ASSOCIATION BUT WE DO HOPE THAT THE COMPETITORS WILL DO SO TO PROTECT THEMSELVES AGAINST CHEATERS. But we will heavily communicate the information on to the Market using ads, forums and social networks as well;
3.) Which standard will be used in measuring the breaking strength?
Will there be a similiar test for all like an ISO process?
What will be tested the linear strength, knotstrength or even when the
line is wet?
It is up to every company to run their own tests according to ISO 2062 Linear strength procedure only. You talk about Knot strength, there are no official procedures as there are many variations in the knots used of course same for dry or wet
4.) Which variation in test results from label will be accepted?
More or less 10 % both in diameter and in breaking strength as in a bulk spool those parameters may vary according to the environment, the spooling tension etc ...This tolerance is decent , its quite impossible to maintain a constistancy on every production otherwise the line will cost the price of the Gold !
5.) Will the old test result be made avaiable again until the charter is
Sure but we do not run new tests before June 2102 as it is the date we gave to the companies to be 100 % on line with the charter .The old tests are still available on line on EFTTA site
set?
6.) Will there be any testing on none charter members in the future?
Sure andresults will be published !
Many thanks for your help in this matter.
Yours sincerely
